Alice liest ihrer kleinen Tochter aus einem Buch vor, in der es eine Welt hinter dem Spiegel gibt. Als sie der neugierigen Tochter zeigen möchte, wo dieses besondere Land ist, landet Alice selbst auf wundersame Weise auf der anderen Seite. Dort, im magischen Schachland, begegnet sie vielen wunderbaren und verrückten Figuren wie Tweedledee und Humpty-Dumpty. Doch Alice hat auch eine Aufgabe: Sie muss als weißer Bauer in einer geheimnisvollen Schachpartie mitspielen. Wenn sie bis zum Schloss der roten Königin vordringt, dann wird sie selbst die Königin im Schachland.
