Nel 1917 la guerra volge al peggio per l'esercito russo. Timos, un operaio ucraino, torna a Kiev dal fronte e diventa uno dei capi della resistenza della fabbrica di armi Arsenal, centro della lotta ai controrivoluzionari nazionalisti, prendendo parte allo sciopero popolare che nel 1918 sconvolse la citta'. Capolavoro epico con forti accenti lirici di Aleksandr Dovzenko, scritto in due settimane e girato in 6 mesi, prodotto per commemorare l'insurrezione contro il governo nazionalista ucraino.
